12th St. LOBBY, BROOKLYN, NY
A lobby is a critical threshold to the experience of individual life and collective
community within any residential building. This first experience of the arrival sequence should be strategically considered as a dynamic extension of the domestic realm offering a unique and welcoming presence to all.
By raising the ceiling and exposing the massive brick entry arches of this former manufacturing complex, we transformed the space of entry to celebrate the scale of its former use. To further amplify the character of the building’s industrial past as the nation’s largest clockworks facility, original drawings of Ansonia’s clock specifications were replicated and resized as large-scale graphics applied to vertical surfaces.
