GSAPP S'04. SWEAT: Training Infrastructures

An eleven acre urban fissure, asserted by a rail yard in Downtown Brooklyn, was explored in an energetic series of simultaneous and iterative Exquisite Corpse-inspired studies to yield a high-density mix of zoning/massing strategies for the territory. In concurrent waves, tactics of land-scapes, public-scapes, domestic-scapes and revenue-scapes were deployed, juxtaposed, and negotiated. This exercise yielded a series of collaborative urban proposals, one of which was advanced to serve as the context for the design of individual segments of a civic fitness infrastructure. Through strategies of appropriation, camouflage, superimposition, transformation, and exuberant display, muscle and psyche are poised within colossal urban possibility.
