Co-Founder / Design Director
Karla Rothstein is an architect and an educator, practicing in these intertwined disciplines for over two decades. Through LATENT, where Rothstein is Design Director, she and Sal Perry are employing the lever community redevelopment to re-constitute the nature and potential of architectural practice. In 1992, she founded the multidisciplinary architecture practice of SR+T with Joel Towers. From 1993 to 1996 she was a member of the design faculty at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Since 1997 Rothstein has taught both core and advanced design studios in the Graduate School of Architecture at Columbia University, where she is an Associate Professor. Her areas of research span the intimate spaces of urban domestic life, death and memory, to intersections of social justice and the built environment.
Rothstein was a Jacob Javits Fellow in Fine Arts from 1988–1992, a William Kinne Traveling Fellow in 1992, and a NYFA recipient in 2000. Her almae matres include the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Columbia University’s GSAPP, the Moscow Institute of Architecture, and the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Switzerland. She is a registered architect in Berlin, Germany.

Sal Perry is an architect and builder. He has over 25 years of experience in the design and construction industries, working directly in virtually every trade involved in realizing mid-rise buildings.
In 1999, LATENT was launched to leverage the potential of architecture to catalyze projects of increased integrity and longevity. Perry has lead the successful development of multifamily and commercial development projects, including new construction, adaptive re-use, and gut rehabilitation. He has navigated the municipal web of required approvals and formed a unique ability to cross boundaries of expertise to collaborate with professionals and builders of any discipline.
He holds a professional degree of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
